About Me

Speigts Pic Dear Parents, Guardians, and Second Graders,

My name is Shannon Speights and I will be your child’s teacher this year! We have an exciting year ahead that will be filled with lots to explore, experience, and learn! I hope to be a guide and mentor to your child this year as they embark on a learning journey filled with excitement, challenges, and many learning opportunities.

First, let me begin by giving you a brief background about myself. I was born and raised in Prince William County. I attended Triangle, Elementary, Dumfries Elementary, Graham Park Middle, and graduated from Potomac Senior High.  I received my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Psychology from Christopher Newport University in 2005. I went on to receive my professional teacher training and Master’s degree from Mary Washington University in 2008.  I am now entering into my thirteenth year of teaching.  In December I become a National Board Certified Teacher.

One reason that I love to teach so much is that students develop and grow a lot over the course of one year. It is wonderful to watch them as they expand their knowledge and learn new things! As your child continues to grow and learn this year, I hope that you will view me as someone you can count on to care for your child and their academic progress. This year, you can be certain that I will work diligently to help them in any way possible. With that in mind, please feel free to contact me at any point if you have questions or concerns about something going on in the classroom or with your child specifically.

There are many ways that you may do this. You may call the school at 703-221-3101 or e-mail me at speighsx@pwcs.edu. Also, for general questions about our classroom, curriculum, announcements, and helpful links, please visit the Dumfries School fusion website.

I am looking forward to a fabulous learning journey with each of you!

Sincerely,

Shannon Speights
