Hello! Parents, Family Members and Learning Partners--I’m Ms. Murphy, your child's 4th grade teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.  This will be my sixth year at Dumfries Elementary and my  fifth year teaching 4th grade.  I  have taught in Prince William County Schools since 2001. This school year will begin my 22nd year teaching children.

I grew up in Chicago, Illinois and Louisville, Kentucky.  I developed a love for visiting interesting places, doing interesting things and meeting interesting people from all walks of life during my 20+ year U.S. Air Force career.

I earned my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education (K-8) from Marymount University. Teaching young children has always been one of my dreams and I get a great deal of joy from it. Kids deserve a quality learning environment; I strive to provide that every day for your child. I believe all children can grow and be successful in life once they develop positive critical thinking and problem solving skills.  Remember – it will take the teacher, the student and parents/learning partners working together to have a successful school year.

My favorite hobby is being an Aunt to my 4 nieces.  My other hobbies include collecting and reading children’s literature, playing golf, traveling, eating good food from different cultures and listening to a variety of music styles.
